Return to Bombs..., err Sugar 44
Welp, with "Hawkeye" manning the aisles at HL, and having read some positive feedback here about Sugar 44, I decided to pop by yesterday afternoon to see if the hype was real.
Sugar 44 is located on Thomas Rd, 12 blocks east of Bourbon Street Circus. It's located next to a McDonalds and a Wells Fargo and if you're driving to it from the west or south, then I'd recommend going just past Thomas and entering from the alley in the rear. Otherwise, you'll have make a U-Turn on Thomas, which can be problematic. Parking lot is on the small side.
When I entered the club, there was no bouncer on duty. No cover, no pat down, sign on the wall said "2 drink minimum). I'm sure all those occur in the evening, but at 1 PM on a Wednesday afternoon, just walk in and find a table. As you walk in, the bar is located right in front of you, and this where 75% of the club's patrons and dancers were located, sitting and chatting amongst themselves. Bathroom is directly to the right as you walk in, stage to the left, as is the main seating area for those who aren't barflies. The stage is smallish, a stretched octagon with about 10 chairs around the tip rail, the usual tiny tables for two behind that and a long cushioned bench behind that (no tables available for the bench.
