Visited: Saturday Evening

I went to the Shady Lady on a Saturday night around 20:30 and stayed through last call. The club is on the west side of Salina in the building that used to be the Wild Wild West. The parking lot is gravel. The cover charge is $5. Sincweisers were $4, whether I wanted it in a twelve ounce bottle or a sixteen ounce can. Going with the tallboy and getting 33% more beer for the same price was a no-brainer. The tattooed bartender had a bangin’ body. I would’ve been content to just stare at her all night. Happy Hour is from 16:00 to 19:00 daily. During Happy Hour, there is no cover charge and domestic beers are only $2.50.

Both the outside and the inside of the club give the appearance that this strip club was once a honky-tonk, even before its previous incarnation as the strip club Wild Wild West. There are cowboy artifacts and Western pictures all over the walls. The inside is fairly large, and an upper level surrounds a pit area that was probably a dance floor once upon a time. Now, a two-pole main stage sits where the dance floor used to be. There is a mechanical bull near the entrance, but it was not used during my visit. There is also a pool table to the right near the entrance. Early in the evening, some strippers were shooting pool with customers. There is a long bar on the back wall and a shorter bar on the front wall. The latter only opens during peak hours when there are a lot of thirsty patrons. Smoking is not allowed inside the building. There is an outdoor smoking patio with its doors to the right of the DJ booth. Even if you are not a smoker, the open air shed is a good venue change to chat up dancers you are interested in. There is no bathroom troll, and the water coming out of the washroom sink smelled bad. There was a sign saying it was non-potable water--okay to wash your hands with, but not okay to drink.

There were fourteen dancers working the night shift on Saturday. There were no dancers I’d rate at an 8 or better, but there were some entertainers I’d grade out at 7 or 7.5. This was perfectly fine as I did not come to the middle of nowhere in the Sunflower State with Sunshine State expectations. Most dancers seemed to be between their mid-20’s and 40. There were no barely legal dancers working. Dancers were definitely much friendlier and lower hustle than what I am used to in larger cities. Most dancers would do a tip walk once the club started getting filled up after 23:00. I am not sure if the tip walk is a mandatory practice. A couple dancers did not do a tip walk and early in the night, only the ugliest dancers would walk the club soliciting tips. A single buck was suffice in getting the dancers to move along. Stage contact was mostly things like the stripper pulling her g-string aside in front of you, the stripper smashing her boobs in your face, and the stripper taking dollars from your mouth with either their mouths, boobs, or butt.
