Sunday Funday Without the Fun
I'd read on TUSCL that Sunday's were great. I'v not visited Hi-Liter on a Sunday in at least 15 years, so I thought give it a go. When I arrived the parking lot was surprisingly filled for a Sunday afternoon, though customers were exiting. The dancers were a mix of black and hispanic dancers for the most part. All the hispanic dancers seemed to be immigrants for whom english is not a first language. Sort of what you'd find in Mexican border town.
I guess it'd be fair to qualify the vibe as an urban strip club, though the customers on this Sunday were mostly older white men. The music was mostly hip-hop and modern R&B. The dancers were mostly on the thick side, save for one very young, light skin, skinny black girl. The drinks were cheap, which was logical since few dances were going down- even at $10 a dance.
The aforementioned skinny girl was the dancer that appealed to me. But she was the most popular dancer in the place that day. Dancers spilled out of the club by 5:00pm, mostly empty-handied it seems. It was a disappointing Sunday visit. I hope it's just a Sunday thing and that Hi-Liter won't soon go the way of the rest of Phoenix strip clubs west of Central Avenue. But for now I'll just stick to weekday afternoons.
