Hit the ATM, got $250, and drove to Lawrence on a Wednesday afternoon, hoping to get some dances and change my mood. Hadn't been to The Bird in over a year.

Arriving about 2:00, I saw about three cars in the customer lot and figured I would be welcomed as a potential source of tip money on an otherwise low-traffic day. Upon entering, nobody was at the door to collect money or screen me, so I walked directly to the bar and ordered a drink from a surprisingly cute little spinner bartender. I noticed three dancers sitting at a table near the stage talking to an obviously older man. Nobody was dancing on stage despite the music, which I understood because I was the only other male customer in the place. I sat for about 10 minutes, waiting for one of the table-sitters to come over and chat me up. Despite a few glances my way, which I returned with a grin and a nod each time, not one was willing to break away from the table and come over. I'm a clean-looking and fit middle aged man.....once described by a stripper as "obvious good money"....so I'm pretty sure the site of me wasn't repulsive. However, even though one dancer eventually did get up on stage and go through the motions of performing to a couple of songs....receiving a $5 stage tip from me to announce my interest....not one dancer even acknowledged me by coming over. Mind you, the dancers at the table were not Vegas-quality entertainers. They were what I'd describe as typical day shift B-teamers, maybe 6 or 7s at best. The little bartender even at one point looked over at the unresponsive group and looked at me and shook her head in disapproval of their laziness. After waiting another 15 minutes with no response, I got up and walked out, taking $230 of cash that I fully intended to leave behind with me. Maybe the old dude at the table was paying long green for the company of the 3 women, I don't know. I do know that at any well managed club, the women would have known that it was an expectation that one would have at least greeted me and asked if I wanted a trip to VIP. all in all, pretty much a wasted trip that I won't soon risk repeating.
