I Liked It (Kind of)

After a marathon session at Treasure Club, Juice and I took a break and Ubered over to South Side Johnnie’s. Having read some reviews, I was expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised (kind of).

SSJ’s is BYOB, and “BYOB” is marked prominently on the entrance door so no one can claim they didn’t realize they don’t serve alcohol. This means it is a full nude club, if that’s your thing. It doesn’t make that much of a difference to me. There is a small anteroom where you pay the $13 cover before entering the main club area, which consists of two sections, a sitting area near the bar, and then down a step there another area with a runway style stage and some more seating. I got a bottle of water at the bar, which was a reasonable $2.

I was expecting a dive, but it’s not at all, at least not in my opinion. I’ve been in plenty of real dives: run down buildings, ratty furniture, filthy restrooms that stink of urine, grotesque dancers. SSJ was none of that. The building looks well maintained and clean, the furniture looked new, and the restroom was spotless. There was a handful of dancers sitting with customers in the area near the bar. It was hard to size them up while they were sitting, but they didn’t look too bad. Eventually, we got to see all of the dancers rotate through the stage and their looks varied dramatically, but a couple of were pretty cute.
