Worth the diversion
Metro Detroit is well known - at least on this site - for the multiude of clubs offering a range of experiences to satisfy nearly every taste and budget. Most of the attention goes to the stalwarts on 8 Mile and the suburban clubs on/near Michigan Avenue, but there are a few clubs off the beaten path that are also worth exploring. Subi's Place in Southgate is one of these spots.
Easy to spot by the gaudy neon sign, Subi's is tucked into a low-density commercial stretch of North Line Road in Southgate. The club has the same "neighborhood bar" scale as Bogart's or the Henry VIII clubs, but with a level of cleanliness and general ambience more akin to a mid-level club like BT's or Silver Criket.
Parking in the small lot is valet only ($6) but at off-peak hours you can usually find space for free on the adjacent side streets - be mindful to obey any regulatory signs, but the neighborhood is generally safe (IMHO).
