Well worth the effort to find this gem
The biggest thing that struck me here is that everyone seemed happy to be here -- customers, dancers, management, even the bouncer at the door. After talking to a couple of the dancers, it sounds like management treats the dancers right and makes sure the customers do, too. The dancers do their turn by treating the customers right. Everybody's happy.
About eight years ago, I hoped to venture into this place on a planned fishing trip to the Hayward area, but "life" intervened and I haven't been back to the area again until this past week, when I visited six Wisconsin clubs in a five-day span. This was by far my favorite. Just what I'd hope to find deep in the North Woods! Loved this place the moment I walked in the door. Hope I get an opportunity for a return trip sometime soon.
Cover charge was $5, beer $4. It's not a big club, by any means. In fact, it's one of the smallest I've ever been in -- maybe 8-9 tables, a dozen chairs lined up on two small stages in an "L" shape (only one was in use when I was there) and about 8 more seats at the bar. The place was about half full, or maybe a bit more, when I arrived around 8:30 p.m. on a Thursday. It's only open Thursday through Saturday (at least this time of year -- not sure about busier hunting/fishing seasons).
There were five dancers, which for that club size and crowd size was just about right. There were supposed to be six, but two cancelled at the last minute and one last-minute sub was brought in (per one of the dancers). Very attractive ladies! I'm typically not one for number ratings, but all were at least 7s and 8s, with at least one maybe a 9. Variety of shapes, but all seemed to be all natural (a big plus with me). A couple bucks at the stage went a long way. And with the small size of the stage, if you were seated at the stage you were never far from the action.
The club emphasis is on the stage. Dancers on stage all got nude, and for substantial time. Dancers don't "mini-lap" at tables (though they do sit an talk with customers) and there is no VIP room. There is a not-very-private area set aside for lap dances (topless only), where some touching is allowed. Dances are $25, with some discounts for multiples.
Some smaller clubs get described as "a local bar that has dancers." That's not the case here, but Phipps shares some characteristics with that sort of club, in that it seemed to have a fair share of "regulars"among the customers. But in this case, that was a positive thing, as they added to the backwoods vibe.
A word of caution, however -- either have very good directions or use a GPS to find the place. It's far from the beaten path.
