Short but fun night out
I was passing through the Quad Cities for a friend's wedding, and my crew wasn't as well-practiced at staying out as they used to be. With festivities wrapping up just after midnight, I figured I'd try my luck finding a couple new friends at Southern Comfort.
I arrived shortly after 1 a.m. and paid the $10 cover, asking the cashier where to get a drink. I'd failed to realize this place is BYOB, and I was directed to a bar on the other side of the parking lot, but the driving rain and nude ladies kept me where I was. I was surprised the audience was as sparse as it was, but again there was quite a deluge coming down outside. The ladies working were by and large attractive, but not exactly knockouts; I'd estimate there were somewhere around 8 to 10 working that night. The venue looked like it hadn't had a facelift since the 90s, but who really cares anyway, right?
I spent my time pleasantly chatting with and getting dances with two ladies before closing (which came all-too-soon at 3 a.m.). Coming from the Chicago area, where touching during dances is generally constrained to legs/waist/back, I was absolutely delighted to discover I could get my hands on butts and boobs for twenty bucks a song. I'm a simple man, and that fact washes away all of my feelings about the lack of booze and outdated decor. The hands-on experience and the generally friendliness of the other dances and staff mean that I'll have to swing by again if/when I'm in the area again.
