Who is what?
This is a bit delayed but I think my notes are good. I was in New York city the first weekend in June. I visited Private Eyes on Friday evening June 1, 2018 between about 9:30 and 11. The club is on 45th street a bit west of 8th avenue, about a 1/2 mile walk from my hotel near Penn Station. There was a guy handing out coupons I think for the club on the corner of 45th and 8th but I didn’t get one and paid the full cover of $20. As you enter the bar is on the right and the main stage with chairs and tables around it on the left. Somewhat oddly there is a wall between the bar and main stage so you could not see the stage from the bar. There was also a small one pole stage on the bar side. The main stage had 2 poles with a horizontal bar between them at the top. Unlike the usual metal poles the poles were transparent plastic with some glittery stuff inside. The room was dark with low ceilings. There were a few TV’s showing sports.
I had a bottle of water, large Voss brand, for $13 (!). The place was about half full with about 30 customers and 25 dancers. The title refers to the fact that at first glance it was hard to distinguish between the dancers and servers, both of which were in similar dress (or undress). It soon became obvious that the ones carrying trays and usually with more sensible shoes were the servers. There were a lot of servers but didn’t push drinks too much. One older woman was doing massages. The dancers were of various ethnicity mostly reasonably young and in good shape and not a lot of tats.
There were 2 dancers on the stage most of the time doing 2 song sets, mostly with tops off. There was some decent pole work although constrained by the low ceiling. The DJ also was calling the dancers to do a stint as the cashier collecting the covers.
