Surprisingly Good (Revisited)

I thought I would update last year's review under the same title since this club has changed management. I have occasioned to pass through Roanoke fairly regularly this year and manage to pop in to G&S when I do. The new guys running the place are trying to make some improvements to the facility, but they still have a long way to go before the joint looks anything else but a dry, run-down dive bar. The place now seems to have a constant industrial-strength cleaning odor to it which it did not have before (maybe that's a good thing). The sound system seems better, as does the stage lighting, but beyond that there has not been much change (some new paint here and there perhaps). The restrooms are still horrific (that might account for the smell), and the bar furnishing are anything but comfortable. As for the ladies, most of the former management's stable has left (no big loss there), and a new group of mostly local gals has taken over. The overall caliber of the dancers has not changed very much, although they are a bit friendlier it seems. There is a bit more hustle for private dances than before, and the ladies do seem to tend to hang with their true regulars (I consider myself only a recent semi-regular). The stage routines are about the same as before, although there appears to be a tendency toward not taking it all off until the stage tips hit the $20 mark (which on slow nights means that most of the stage show wind up being topless only). The private dances are of decent value depending on the dancer - as is usually the case the more the dancer knows you the more mileage you receive. The Champagne Room is not a room but a curtained-off booth with no champagne since the place is totally dry. The action there is the same as with regular dances for the most part, so you are better off sticking with the regular dances and two-for-one's. On the whole it is still a good joint to kill an evening and blow maybe $100 but it is by no means a destination club and probably never will be.
