Memorial Day Sunday

This review is of a visit to Desire from about 4:30 to 6:30 in the afternoon of Sunday May 27, which was Memorial Day weekend. I was making a trip to Boston and New York and decided to spend a couple of nights in Providence on the way. Google Maps didn’t recognize the address 1 Franklin Square but did find the intersection of Eddy and Allens. The club is right off the Interstate and should be easy to drive too and has a fairly large parking lot. I didn’t have a car and walked the half mile from my hotel in the downtown area. The area is mostly old factory buildings with the more recent Brown University Medical School taking up some of the space. The area was almost completely deserted on Sunday afternoon. The club is from the outside an old building which is partly two stories with the membership club Lust on the second floor, which advertised 5-star dining.

The entrance is along the left side of the building. Nobody at the desk and I walked right in. On the front side of the room are two square bars. Watch out for a step between the bars and the stage area that might trip you up. There was virtually no drink hustle, the bartenders mostly stayed behind the bars. So I didn’t even have water. The DJ was promoting some special, a card good for $25 in drinks for some discounted price. There was a “buffet” consisting of some rolls and some kind of glop to put on them, which didn’t seem at all worth it.

Down a hall on the right side of the building is outdoor smoking area and “Tiki Bar”. It was cold and starting to rain so these were not in use this day. The main stage (one pole) is along the far wall with chairs and tables around it. On the right side of the room is another narrow stage. Behind this stage is one of the biggest TV’s I’ve ever seen, showing sports, the Red Sox game had just ended and they switched to other sports.
