Remodeled and reopened
I heard through the grapevine that Penthouse was reopened so I decided to give it a spin last weekend. I went there for dinner, arrived around 6:15 to catch the end of day shift and avoid a cover charge. I'm not sure if they're still charging cover in the evening.
The downstairs layout is the same as it was prior to the remodel, but it still got an upgrade. Furniture was reupholstered, everything got a fresh coat of paint, etc. It's darker than it was and IMO looks much nicer. Upstairs, obviously, got the bulk of the work. The bar was remodeled so there are now seats on all 4 sides - almost the same design and dimensions as the downstairs bar. I think the private areas behind the bar are gone now (though I didn't look closely, I could be wrong).
Of course, what everyone was expecting/fearing is true - the private areas are no longer rooms. Each one has a new couch with a raised platform a few feet in front of it, and no walls or curtains. Everyone walking by can see what you're up to if they want to, and from what I saw, there's plenty of traffic - the hallway with the private areas is what connects the main club to the dressing area and DJ booth. Neither dancer I went upstairs with was concerned with the platform - it's just there for raids. Dances were of the standard high-contact Southeast Michigan variety. Extras will be a bit more tricky. There are a couple very dark booths in the very back corner that might be suitable, but any extras you can get will be a lot closer to 2004-era Booby Trap (i.e. furtive HJ in the dark and you hope nobody notices) than 2017 Penthouse Club. And given the extra hassle and risk, I'd expect the average prices to go up. I was offered a HJ for $$$ and declined.
