Early Tuesday Night at the Wagon Wheel
Arrived at Players Club (the Wagon Wheel) shortly after they opened, just after 8 on a Tuesday. A thunderstorm was setting in when I pulled up, a ton of lightning lit the sky and it was very forboding. When I pulled up, a dancer was sitting in her car in the parking lot having a fight with a dude, maybe he was her boyfriend, her pimp, or maybe just her driver. I didn't investigate or linger because of the storm and I dashed into the club. $40 for membership, $25 cover if you're a member, and I've heard they waive a lot of the fee if you can show an out-of-state license, but I can't verify that. Bottom line is that the cover keeps out the riff-raff.
Club is BYOB, so even though the cover is steep, at the end of the night, you come out ahead because you're not spending a lot on drinks. The club is not dark, but the lighting is weird, a lot of red lights and blacklights so your clothes might disappear or they might glow. For unknown reasons, this night my khaki shorts were glowing like crazy. There is a small "bar" where you can get cups, ice, or some mixers. Water is $5. There was no bartender this night, the bouncer was covering it as well as the front door.
I was surprised to see a pretty healthy crowd for an early weeknight, about 10 mongers when I was there. Very chill crowd, most of the time sipping drinks at their seats; occasionally coming up to the stage to tip and exchange a word with one of the 6-7 dancers. They were only running the main stage while I was there, each girl would do a 2-song set.
