Recon Report: Still In Need Of Some Work
The Cheshire Bridge Road area is almost infamous to those familiar with Atlanta's adult entertainment scene. Within a one-mile radius there's one of the highest densities of strip clubs, massage parlors, adult video stores, and "jack shacks" anywhere - strangely intermingled with a few high-quality restaurants, typical suburban retail and fast food joints, and all within a stone's throw of some fairly upscale neighborhoods.
The last decade or so has seen an increasing march toward gentrification along Cheshire Bridge, with one club torn down to make way for new apartments, but the name "Gold Club" is obviously an attempt to harken back to the heyday of Atlanta's clubbing history. (The building that used to house that club before it was shuttered by the feds is still standing, on Piedmont Road just north of the south end of Cheshire Bridge).
The "new" Gold Club is actually a refresh of a much smaller club that's gone through a variety of name changes and business models at the same location - most recently as Tease, but also Bliss and the 24K Club within the past few years. With stalwarts like Follies, Oasis, and Tattletale to choose from, I'd never felt a need to spend my limited clubing time in Atlanta scouting other locations, but when I got word that this club was reopening and I happened to be nearby, I decided to do a recon trip to see if it might be worth adding to the rotation.
