Different, In A (mostly) Good Way

I'd never been to the Lido room (or any of the roving, pop-up strip clubs), but I had always been intrigued by the set up. I understood that the speakeasy, faux-exclusive marketing is a bit overrated, but I've always liked meeting and chatting up the working artists or grad students in any given club, and I thought that this place might have more girls of just such a type: good looking semi-pros with something to talk about and without the full-time dancer's sales approach. I decided to check the place out early (c. 7:30) on a Tuesday, and I was not disappointed.

I've given them an 8 for looks overall, but I must say that the first girl with whom I spoke was a genuine stunner; an easy 10 for me. Other girls ranged from slightly above average girl-next-door to the very hot girl on the train who may not be a model but for sure gets a lot of attention for her looks. Girls seem to invest a lot of time in conversation, almost like a Japanese hostess bar. It got to the point that I felt like I might have been wasting the time of some of the girls with whom I had no intention of dancing. I was assured that this was just the style here, though, so fine. For me, this is the value of this club, and why I don't feel completely cheated by the $50 door fee. I was able to luxuriate in the artificial flirting and live the fantasy without the sales pressure being front and center. Whether these girls are genuinely from different backgrounds compared with your typical NYC dancer or if they are simply better conversational actors, the effect is nice for those of us who prioritize that kind of thing. Maybe the vibe is different later in the evening, but I can only write about my experience.

Dances are conducted in a large common area of couches, so there's not a whiff of privacy. Furthermore, there was a bouncer stationed in the room. If this is a boner-killer for you, then this place likely isn't for you. I've always liked bar-side action and getting dances on the open floor, so I wasn't put off by the set up, but yeah, privacy would have been nice. I took the one gorgeous girl with whom I spoke for a few dances (after what felt like a very long and charming conversation), and was confronted with the slight downsides that come with a semi-pro dancer. She wasn't an A+ lap dance artist. She was sweet and committed, though, grinding away and putting my hands on her ass. I got significantly more contact from her than I was frankly expecting, and she spent the entirety of the songs fully in my lap. Obviously not even the barest hint of extras, but if I had come here expecting to get a BJ, then I would have been a complete fool.
