Nice club next to the convention center

During my last visit to San Francisco, I decided to try a new club and gave the Gold Club a try. Unlike the handful or more of clubs on Broadway, the Gold Club sits by itself on the south side of the downtown area. It's almost next to the large Moscone convention center. There are a couple of pricey restaurants next door, as well as the museum of modern art. The outside of the club is somewhat modest, not covered with flashy neon like the clubs on Broadway.

The door guy gave me a firm handshake and introduced himself. Not only was my ID not scanned, but I wasn't asked for an ID at all (on either of my two visits). On Tuesday, the cover charge was $10; on Friday it was $20. The inside of the club is pretty nice. The main area is two stories tall, so it feels pretty spacious even though the club isn't all that big. The chairs were comfortable. A modest stage had a very tall pole and was backed by giant LED displays that produced a variety of abstract patterns behind the dancers. There were also two tiny side stages, which were more like go-go platforms than actual stages. The only issue I had with the overall layout was that there was a column in the center of the room that obstructed the view of the stage for several tables. The waitresses were attentive and friendly. Soft drinks were $6. A mixed drink was about $15.

The dancers were great - a wide variety of attractive women. The stage performances were mostly average, but several put in some significant effort with either dancing or pole tricks. It looked like tipping got some attention, but no real interaction with the stage dancers. Lots of dancers stopped at my table. Some sat in the chair next to me, while most sat on my lap to chat. They all made some conversation before inquiring about a dance, and none of them were high pressure about it.
