Friendly competition is better than no competition
This is an update to a prior review, and reflects the changes in the over 6 months with only one club. There have been enough changes that I thought a new review was warranted but I am trying not to be repetitive.
Since Crazy Horse closed, Pure Gold has been the only game in town. While owned by the same company, the two clubs always had a different vibe. Unfortunately, many of the best dancers from CH have not lasted at PG, and more than just the normal turnover among dancers. Applying the rule of discounting 90% of stripper drama, the reasons are unclear, but seem related to the crackdown on the use of alcohol and other substances, and the change in the way money is handled.
The overall quality of dancers varies, but is not as good as you would expect given the beach town and nearby UNCW. Frankly, the club does not recruit as it sometimes did when there were 2 clubs to fill and that lack of pretty young things shows. Most of those girls do not last, but they are a nice addition. The House intros which are a promo for a buy one get one couch room dance, are inconsistently offered, and are not done on slow nights, which seems strange given the need to encourage couch room dances. If you are a smoker, or even if you are not, the outdoor patio is less noisy and does allow for some conversation if you wish to talk with either dancers or more than one friend, which is difficult inside the club. The club has gotten better about showing sporting events when those are on instead of music videos or nude videos(which to me do not provide a good compare and contrast to the non airbrushed women in the club). If they are not showing a game you want to see, you can ask the DJ to put it on, and they usually do so.
