Avoid. Nothing to See Here.
This place will make many a customer uncomfortable. I didn't stay that long. The place was packed when I got there at around 2 in the morning. Had been to other clubs, and was really just here to check it off the list. It sounded terrible in the review, and was terrible in person. Got past the metal detectors and walked through the middle of some sort of argument a customer was having with the staff working the entrance. I stood there for a little bit, not wanting to catch a shot that was intended for someone else. They paused long enough to take a quick look at me and wave me through. The main club was pretty rough looking, and so was the crowd. Not that many places to sit and they were all taken. The decor made the club look like it was homemade. Did not see a lot of posing here, it was a straight up rough crowd. I really hate to keep downgrading these clubs that are catering to the hip hop crowd, but it's just the way these scenes play out. I've seen a few clubs like this in Baltimore (on the Block) and in Atlanta that seem to get it right with some amount of safety, but in most other towns these are spots to avoid unless you know you're going to fit in there.
But oddly enough I saw a couple of groups of young hipsters who were carrying on like they got lost looking for a frat house, with their skinny Barbie girlfriends in tow. Loud, obnoxious, and the kind of behavior that would get you robbed in brutalized in towns like Atlanta, Baltimore, and DC, but to their credit this crowd just kind of stared at them and got back to business. Would I declare the club safe? Not exactly, because all it takes is one thug to ruin your night. But I thought I would share that since I was telling the rest of it. As one of the groups was loudly staggering into the parking lot after high fiving the doormen, I watched for a bit waiting to see if they got their asses kicked but it didn't happen. I was on my way out by then, and the guys at the door just looked and shrugged when I turned to them with a non-verbal WTF? The frat kids seemed like they had a great time, but I surely didn't. Won't be going back. A couple of the girls seemed like they might be good for a spin, but who has the time to wait when there was no rhyme or reason to what was going on?
At Follies in ATL there was enough benefit to put up with near chaos on the main floor. Here not so much. That's where the comparison stops, by the way.
