I went to Diamonds around 22:00 on a Friday night and stayed until the club closed down at 01:30. The cover was $8. The inside of the club is spacious and has four stages and two full bars. The main stage is the only one that was in constant use. It has a spinning pole. There are two smaller satellite stages located out in the main seating area. Each was surrounded by eight brass poles, giving them the appearance of a cage. They were used sparingly throughout the night by dancers wanting to earn some extra money or practice dance moves. The fourth stage is by the VIP deck at the back of the club. A bottle of water was $3. Sixteen ounce Budweisers and Bud Lights were $3, cheap by gentlemen’s club standards. A fountain soda was $4.25. Kamikazes are $5 and sixteen ounce Hurricanes are $10. There must not be many good nightlife options in Bangor because it seemed like the locals treated the strip club as if it was a regular nightclub. The percentage of non-stripper females inside the club on Friday night was the highest I have ever seen.
Lap dances take place in a community room at the back of the club with about a dozen benches. There is absolutely no privacy, and a bouncer sits at a desk counting dances, selling $3 wristbands for the right to use the room, and making sure no patrons touch the dancers. Contact is what I would to refer to as “minimal one-way”. The dancer can touch you, but they cannot mount you and grind, so it seems the dancers are constantly switching positions or breaking contact with you. For review purposes, I did take one for the team by purchasing two lap dances. I put my hands on the dancer’s waist and got reprimanded by the bouncer. Apparently your hands must stay placed on the bench during the whole lap dance. Dancers told me two-way contact is allowed in the champagne rooms. A half hour VIP is $400, and an hour VIP is $650. I think each option includes a bottle of champagne that will not even be able to make a dent in. Even if you can touch the dancers in the champagne rooms, they are still outrageously overpriced.
The quality of dancers was high for being the northernmost strip club in New England. All dancers were in the 6 to 10 range on my strict scale. The dancers only strip down to only g-strings. They must wear pasties in order for the club to have a liquor license, but they were barely noticeable on some entertainers. The sexiest dancers were bringing in over $100-150 in one and two dollar bills during a stage set. Eva and Lizzy seemed to be all about making money from their stage shows, as I did not catch either soliciting guys for lap dances. Also, both of them would frequently perform on the satellite stages after they got off the main stage. Most dancers would accost guys for lap dances or the VIP rooms once they finished on the main stage.
