Porthole Pub

Porthole Pub is in a low-end strip shopping center, but it’s on a well-traveled, well lit road, and the parking lot is well lit, so it didn’t look unsafe. There was an armed guard outside the door who ignored me as I walked in.

Cover charge was $5 for my visit at about 7:30 on a Tuesday. The place is definitely a dive, but I tend to like dives, and I had high expectations for this place after reading some previous reviews. Unfortunately, it didn’t meet expectations.

The place looked run down and ratty, but that was OK with me because that’s what you expect in a dive. I took a seat a the bar and ordered a drink. I can’t remember the cost, but it was normal strip club pricing ($4-5 for a beer). There were only about half a dozen customers sitting around the small square bar that takes up the middle of the club. There were a few thuggish looking black guys and some older PL white guys. One of the older white guys standing at a corner of the bar was wearing a ball cap, white T-shirt, and shorts, and was obviously drunk out of his mind, trying to dance to the music, waving his arms, and stumbling around. Again, the kind of thing you expect in a dive, so I didn’t mind as long as he left me alone, which he did.
