Lives Up to Reputation, Both Good and Bad
Follies is one of the most talked about clubs on the boards, mainly because it's the home club of one of the most prolific posters in the TUSCL forums. I had been to Atlanta clubs multiple times but hadn't ever stopped here. It's not in the most convenient of locations unless it is the only place you're going. I had a quick trip to Atlanta and time for only one club, so this was it.
I went through on a Wednesday night. Got there at about 9pm. Parking in the club lot was valet only, so I didn't park there. Drove over across the the street since there is a traffic light, but other than the gym there was nothing open that late. There is an auto shop down the hill from the club, and that is where most of the customers were parked that weren't in the valet lot. I noticed when I was leaving that some guy had put a sign in one of the driveways that the auto shop lot was also a pay lot, but I just headed down to the other driveway to leave and ignored him. I'm guessing if you're already parked they're not going to bug you.
As many other reviews have said, there is armed security at night. They are wearing infiltrator type body armor so it is obvious who they are. I got frisked a little, but it was no big deal. You'll know if they think you pose a threat. Door charge was cheap so I don't remember what it was. The door girl was friendly. By that time of night the club was packed wall to wall and most seats were taken. There were a few around the bar, and one table was empty (the one on the corner between the upper right stage and the bathrooms - aka the worst seat in the house). Yes, I ended up sitting there once I found a dancer I liked well enough, and it was awkward as hell watching a very good dancer try to make it work with constant foot traffic.
