Not a Club for the Afternoons. Main Place in Town for After Hours.
By now I know which clubs I like around San Antonio, and when in town that's where I go. But I also get bored, so I added XTC and a couple of other clubs to my list just to check them out. TUSCL says this place opens at 4 pm. That's when the doors open, but don't expect anything interesting to happen for at least another hour. When I hadn't bothered to check when the club opened, I thought it would be around noon like a lot of the other clubs. Not so.
The first time I showed up, it was in the afternoon at around quarter till four. It's in an industrial area and there's a parking lot and parking on the street out front. Guessing at night the lot and street are full, so be aware you might end up parked in some sketchy spots after hours. I have been to XTC brand clubs in other towns that I thought were OK, so even though the reviews for this place were uniformly bad I gave it the benefit of the doubt. Anyhow, I walk up and see a guy sitting outside in the covered driveway looking bored. I tried the door. It was locked, then I noticed the little sign that said open 4pm to 5am. I asked the guy if he was waiting for the club to open and he said yeah. It wasn't that long to wait, so I went back to the car and started checking email. If he was waiting maybe it would be worth it. At about 5 til 4 pm, I took another look around and asked why the bother. The club was probably not going to be too interesting right after it opened anyway, so I drove off to another club. Turns out I had an unexpectedly good time there, so no loss.
The second time I went was from another club that was probably better left for another day. There'll be a review on that one. Traffic was not as bad as expected, so I got there right at 4 pm. I am walking up and see another guy walking a few steps ahead. He tries the door and its locked. Here we go again. This time the door opens, so I follow the other guy inside. Just opened. No music. Lights up. Smells like a wall of cigarette smoke hits me about three feet in the door. Since there is absolutely nothing going on, the staff goes about their business and I take a quick look around deciding what to do next. Staffers were polite and professional, so no issue there. I ask the guys what time is good time to check back. Was basically told the girls start showing up after the club opens, and something interesting might be happening around 5 pm. I didn't go back, and won't be going back. A lot of clubs operate where girls wander in when they feel like, so that's not really a negative either. I'm just at the point in life where I'm usually done in the clubs before the rowdies with something to prove show up (or I get there when they're tired and leaving).
