Inexpensive and pleasant
Club Downtown lives up to its name and is located right in downtown Montreal, on Saint Catherine's which is a primary road filled with ordinary shopping, restaurants, banks and the like. I walked by the club three times before I found it. There's a tall sign, but it just says "Downtown" and the entrance is a single door between other normal businesses, so from across the street there's not actually a lot to suggest a strip club. It's right next door to the "Nuru Massage" place on the corner, which has a more obvious sign. Through the door is just a stair going up to the club. Entry cost $5 (Canadian, of course, which at present is discounted pretty nicely against the US dollar). My Coke was $8.
The club isn't terribly large, and is laid out in a long rectangle. There's a bar on the left and then beyond that a stage on the right with some booths across from it. There are tables on either side of the stage. The stage is relatively small with two poles. The dance sets were unusual. One dancer would go on and dance a song, getting topless. Then she'd get down and a different dancer would go up, sometimes with a delay of a song with no one on stage. Then the first dancer would return for another song, often but not always getting nude. There was no one around the stage, so I couldn't judge any potential interactions (I didn't sit there myself either). The dancing was ok at best. Very little if anything in the way of pole tricks, but that was at least partly because the ceiling was relatively low. There was a lot of "pose dancing". It was a quiet night, though, so maybe the performances are more lively when there are more people to perform for.
The dancers themselves were attractive and sort of politely friendly rather than terribly interested or outgoing. One of them was one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen in a club, (or elsewhere for that matter) - fit and trim with great natural curves; just stunning. The others were also quite nice. There weren't enough to have a ton of variety, but there were a couple of non-white girls, and a little variety in terms of body type. Only a couple had enhanced breasts; one had lots of tattoos but the others had few or none. Many (most) of the dancers spoke French when they first approached, but if I replied with "hello" they switched to English. One of the dancers had pretty limited English but got through some chit chat before an invitation to a lap dance. The others spoke quite good English, with a lovely accent. They each had a fairly quick invitation to dance, but there wasn't any hard sell.
