A must on every trip to Austin

I visit Austin once or twice a year for a week or two at a time and always find the time to visit a few strip clubs. When I started coming here seven years ago, my favorite clubs were Yellow Rose, Sugar's Uptown Cabaret, and Expose. Now the first two of those have dropped out of my rotation entirely, replaced by recent discoveries XTC and Landing Strip.

As someone remarked a while back in a discussion post, Austin always seems to have about 11 strip clubs, unusually few for a youthful and rapidly growing city of 900,000+, and can't seem to support a 12th club. In the past couple of years Austin Theater and Down in Texas Saloon have died and been replaced by Foxy's Cabaret, way up north near Rick's and Perfect 10. On every visit to this somewhat stagnant strip club scene I try to visit one club that is new to me. Three years ago it was Landing Strip, two years ago XTC, and last year Chicas Bonitas.

After an enjoyable but ultimately frustrating couple of hours at Hot Bodies, I made my way through southeast Austin to the Landing Strip, located near the airport on Bastrop Highway, the extension of Airport Boulevard (which, of course, is named for the *old* Austin airport, much closer to downtown, that has been redeveloped as the Mueller Community). I arrived just after 7 and paid $5 "sin tax" and $10 for a booth near the main stage, providing some privacy for interaction with dancers. Sure enough, as soon as the waitress brought my $4 Dos Equis, the dancer on stage joined me and starting grinding on me and playing with Little Deuce for a couple of $10 lappers. She talked me into doing a VIP room, which cost $40 to the club for a half hour plus $20 per dance to her.
