Good value and good looking women
I was recently London and was pretty excited to check out my first international club scene. I must admit to being a little perplexed at first. There seem to be two kinds of clubs here, the American-style (and very expensive) clubs like Spearmint Rhino or Stringfellow's, and the traditional, money-in-the-jug neighborhood joints. The Griffin, in East London, is one of the latter, and worth a visit.
Here's how such clubs work. You walk in like any pub, and there is a lovely, naked, often eastern-European, woman dancing on a small stage at one end of the venue. These places are usually pretty small, but friendly, clean, and the prices at the bar are the close to the same as in the neighborhood boozer just down the street. Before each dancer takes the stage, she makes a rotation through the bar, collecting a pound each from the patrons. Once you've paid, you will be left alone to enjoy your beer and the show.
I had to walk a lot farther than I expected from overland station to the club (there is closer public transport), but on the way I passed lots of good, cheap places to eat and other interesting, shops and venues. Once I found the Griffin, I was pleased, as it is a pleasant, low-pressure place with reasonably-priced beer, no cover and good-looking women. I ordered my pint and watched the whole afternoon rotation of 7 or 8 dancers, a mix of eastern European, British and Asian women. I then accepted the offer of a trip to the "private dance area" from a lovely and petite Asian woman. The private dance was strictly no-touch, and the private dance area actually consisted of four or five mini-stages with a pole each. While I would have preferred a lap dance, it was kind of hot to see three fully-nude dancers doing some decent polework in close proximity to each other.
