sinclair's Review
I went to Texas Jay’s, formerly known as Solid Gold, around 10pm on a Thursday night. The club is located in the Walker’s Point neighborhood. The cover charge was $10. I was also forced to remove my hat and check it at the entrance, which I thought was stupid. A domestic bottle was $5; it took five minutes for the bartender to acknowledge that I was waiting to get a drink. The bar is long and where most of the patrons were sitting. It is straight ahead as you enter. To the right are the dance booths. They seemed to offer some privacy since they have curtains covering their openings. To the left are tables and the stages which run along the outer wall of the building. The stages and table seating hook around to the left, but that part of the club was roped off. I guess if there was a larger crowd, more of the club could be opened up and additional stages could be activated.
Only one of the stages was in use. There were seven dancers on duty: Brandy, Daisy, Vicky, Nina, Natasha, Dakota, and Deja. Vicky, Nina, and Natasha were flat-out fat and should not be dancing. Brandy and Daisy were also chubby. Dakota is a brunette that is too skinny to be healthy. Deja was the only dancer that might have been close to a 7. She had a nice butt but no tits. Private dances were $25, but with the lack of good-looking talent, I did not go for one. As is commonplace in Milwaukee, dancers do a tip walk after they are done performing on stage. Typically a single dollar will get them to move along. I witnessed one customer touch a dancer too much at the stage while tipping her, and he was kicked out by bouncers. He was not doing anything more than putting dollars in her g-string and flapping a dollar across her ass. The management seems paranoid about anyone having fun.
Although the interior was functional and fairly clean, the dancers I witnessed made me think this club is either having a hard time getting good-looking dancers, or they are trying to appeal to a BBW niche. A $10 cover charge and no-hat policy is too demanding for a club that couldn’t provide appealing female talent--the basis for why we go to strip clubs. I spent about $26 total in this club ($16 for the cover, the beer, and bartender tip alone) and got the hell out. When I went to claim my checked ball cap at the desk on the way out, I was verbally abused by the clerk because he didn’t like the team on my ball cap. I do not think I will return to Texas Jay’s.
