Not what I expected

I have read reviews about the St James several times, in anticipation of visiting Houston, which I get to about once a year. This visit I actually had some time one evening so I set out to sample the St James which according to its reviews is the stuff of legends. So I get there, $10 cover, set down, Beers were $7 and I begin to look around. There were some attractive dancers, best I saw in my opinion was an eight, but some might disagree.. I started tipping the girls I thought were interesting which usually leads to them coming by to visit with you which can lead to lap dances. I soon found out that this club does not function like other clubs I have been to in any state. Generally the girls do not circulate and mingle, most get off stage and sit down. Then they wait to be approached by customers for dances. I soon learned that you have to be far more assertive here than anywhere else I have ever been. Ok, I am a fast learner and I can do that. There is another difference at this club. Just because you ask a dancer for some lap dances does not mean she will agree to dance for you. I talked to one dancer who informed me she only danced if the guy got at least four dances, as I never commit to that many dances I declined. I then started paying attention and saw several other patrons shot down by various girls. Evidently the girls here are so in demand that they pick and choose who will be their customer. I know what you are thinking, is this guy a disgusting, dirty elephant man? No, I was typical of the patrons in the club well dressed, clean, middle aged and had plenty of cash. Regardless there were some girls that agreed to give me a dance. Dances are $20 and given in little private rooms which seemed promising. All I can say is that the dances I received were for lack of a better word lame. I live in Nashville with a three foot rule, and lap dances have to be given with the girl in a bikini and no touching. The dances here were not much better. Thinking I had just gotten a lame dancer I sampled about 6 different ladies dances, and they were all the same. There is a VIP but it was never explained to me even after I explained I was just visiting from Tennessee. The club is really nice inside, and no one is particularly rude, it is just a very different world there.Even the dancers were polite, but not overly interested in chatting, they would chat for 5 minutes and ask for a dance. In retrospect the situation was somewhat amusing and I am glad I went as now I don't feel like I have missed anything. I would have to say the Austin and Dallas clubs are much better than the Houston clubs based on my sole experience.
