Archibald's has just re-opened its main first floor after several months of renovation. There had been some speculation that the renovation might have been prompted by the competition from the Mpire Club, which has a very modern plush night club feel to it.
However the renovation is disappointing if people were expecting major changes. The layout is virtually the same except that the stage that was in the back wall is now moved to the same side as the original stage. I heard that there might be more coming to the renovation later. The mirrors against the bar and the back of the stages as well as the on the support posts are gone. The dancers are complaining about the absence of the back of the stages because it prevents them from seeing who is coming up to the stage when their back is turned. They also don't like the lack of side poles and the stages seem to be smaller as well. There is some new more modern lighting, but the place is now a lot darker.
Archibald's is awkward at any rate to view the dancers because of the long bar. You have to turn your seat around from the bar to watch them and if you are sitting along the side where the stages are, you have to turn sideways. It would be a lot better if the bar was shorter like in Camelot and Mpire and have a seating configuration where most people could have the stage.
