I have been to the Playhouse...

I have been to the Playhouse an a few occasions, always the first or third Wednesday when they hold their amateur contest at about 11:00 PM. The club is in the middle of nowhere - drive into the darkness until you reach the exit, and there it is, the only thing around. It is a very basic steel building, but it is large and the parking lot is well lit. It is nonsmoking inside, so you usually pass through a group of smokers to get to the front door. Cover on amateur night is $20.

Once inside, the place is huge. I've never been there on a weekend, but can only imagine what this place is like when packed. On Wednesdays, it seems they just use the near half of the club, but there is plenty of room all the way around the stage, or back at a table if you don't want to be stage side. Amateur night is always entertaining. I have seen anywhere from 8-16 girls, usually right around 12. They determine the winner by applause, so bring friends if you want to tilt the odds in one dancer's favor. Each dancer has one song to dance, they are expected to get totally nude, and at the end each contestant gets another 10-20 seconds right before the voting. The club gives $1,000 in prize money, split among the top 4.
