So after traveling the US to...
So after traveling the US to various SC's, I finally made a run for the border to TJ to check out HK. Prior to departure I printed the coupons off the HK website for a free limo, free drink and 1/2 price lap dance.
All the prior advice regarding logistics proved accurate. I called HK from my hotel in SDiego (allow about 1 hour drive/walk time to get from your hotel to the gas station where the HK picks you up on the TJ side of the border) and requested the limo. The operator spoke perfect English and confirmed the reservation.
I exited I-5 at Camino DeLa Plaza, made a left then a right and parked at the lot across from Jack In the Box. It was a few dollars more than the lot behind JITB but the walk from the cheaper lot appeared quite a bit further. For $2 more, I'll take the close lot. There was also a money changer by this lot that offered the best rate by about a penny. Most money changers have large digital displays so you can 'price shop.' HOWEVER, I did NOT see ANY reason to get pesos as everyone I interacted with at HK took USD as did the cabbies. So unless you're going to hit some locals spots in TJ, skip the money changer as it's not needed. From the US side to the gas station on the TJ side where the limo was waiting was about a 10 minute walk. To get to the gas station, walk past the retail/eatery shops which will be on your left until you get to a roundabout. The gas station is on the opposite side and you'll see the price signage. It's the only gas station in this area so you can't miss it. The driver was waiting for me (I was about 5 minutes late) and he happily opened the door and provided the quick five minute drive to HK. At HK he said "Amigo, everything is included but my tip." I presented the coupon and a $5 tip which he seemed lukewarm with. He wasn't rude but he didn't seem thrilled. Maybe $10 is more the norm?
