The real Bourbon Street may be a thousand miles south of here, but this place manages to convey the image of the French Quarterclub, open to the street, where one can look in and see dancing going on. In an area full of juice bars (see Dream Girls around the corner), Augie's has a full service bar with anything you want to drink, and, per Minnesota law, the girls are only topless. You can sit there and get a $5 back rub from one of the lovelies. Mostly a black club, this joint pulls in a local clientele and a few tourists coming in off Wicked Hennepin Avenue, one of the friendliest streets in the country, where you can find a genuine Rolex watch and true love (or reasonable facsimile thereof )for fifty bucks or thereabouts. Sophistication to the winds...here you can find beauty, contact, real drinks and listenable music....or reasonable facsimile thereof. Worth at least a few minutes of your time. With the opening of the Green Line in June, the Hennepin Avenue district is accessible by light rail from St. Paul, which has few strip venues of its own.
