I seldom go to Sands. It's not really my type of club. A few things about it make it unconventional compared to other Puget Sound Region clubs. It's a small club, and hence, there is a small selection of dancers. My usual visits to Sands are when I know a particular dancer is there, or one has been recommended to me. In this case I went on Tuesday night, December 17th to see a particular dancer I've known for several years from a couple of other Seattle clubs. Additionally, two other dancers were there that night that I know. One I didn't know at all worked there, and the other was due to be off that night. So, for not going to that club more than once a year, I was surprised to find three of the nine dancers on shift that night that I know.
I was in the club between 9:30 and 11:00 p.m. I had a great time with the dancer I came to see. The club was slow. Maybe only about four customers, total, in the club at any point while I was there. However, there was a marked improvement in the stage shows. It used to be that the stage was empty for lengthy periods of time, because the club has no d.j. to keep the show running. The manager simply announces the girl who's on stage. I like that system rather than the usual d.j. blather. The dancers seem to go on stage when they feel like it--perhaps to entice customers. Once, though, it was announced that there would be a break between songs. Other than that, I was able to see the stage in almost constant use. And, a nice change of pace from other clubs was that just smooth, slow, mellow music seemed to be played throughout the evening. (I really can't stand most contemporary music played in strip clubs.)
Of the nine dancers on shift, I recall eight were Caucasian and one African-American girl. They seemed mostly in their mid-20s to early 30s age range. Interesting that none of others that I didn't know came over to chat with me, much less ask for dances. but I must admit, I was mostly kept lots of company by two of three girls there that I knew. However, the others certainly had their chance.
