I'm a dancer from Pittsburgh, and...
I'm a dancer from Pittsburgh, and I like checking out new clubs as a customer when I'm visiting friends in other cities. I came to this club with 2 female (non-dancer) friends and a male friend, as it was favorably recommended to us by someone who seemed to know the area clubs well. He referred to it as an "after-hours club," as it is open for a few hours after the other clubs close at 2am.
We were each charged a $10 cover, which was much lower than I expected, considering that they are the ONLY club open after 2am and could easily profit from that. Or not, because when we got inside, it was dead. Painfully dead. And I could kind of understand why. The club itself it very nice - it was aesthetically pleasing, clean, upscale, good sound, good lights, etc. And then there were the dancers. I saw fewer than 10 girls in the hour I was there (which was fine considering the dancer:customer ratio, I suppose, but odd for a club in a city the size of Columbus). They walked around nonchalantly and absently, like they were lost or looking for something. We were seated in some chairs in a corner, far enough from the stage to not be rude, just to scope the place out a bit. I smiled at a few of the girls, and they smiled back...as they passed right by us. As a dancer, this seemed like a bad business practice...if the club is dead, and you see four friendly-looking people, YOU DON'T PASS THEM BY. You ask for a lap dance. You chat them up. You say hello, in the very least. You are there to make money, not take a stroll. And yet, they walked around. And around and around. They didn't really even speak to one another, which also struck me as odd. And then there was their dancing. They didn't. Dance, that is. We sat through the sets of 5 different girls, none of whom did much more than walk around, rub their boobs in the faces of the two guys at the stage, walk around, walk around the pole, rub boobs in faces, and so on. It was the most boring strip club I have ever been to. One girl tried to do a pole trick, but it looked a lot like practice...she landed poorly, stood up, and then repeated the trick. The behavior of the girls was bizarre to the point that it was uncomfortable. They were not unattractive girls, overall, but they weren't beautiful girls. Very plain, as though they had just decided to roll out of bed and be a stripper for a night and go back to their regular jobs/lives in the morning. My friends, 2 of whom where first-timers, reported being "underwhelmed." I was just plain creeped out.
Based on the other reviews here, I am assuming this is NOT the common experience and that Vanity functions as a totally normal strip club at any other time. I really wish I'd been there any other time. We, however, spent a very boring hour watching some topless girls try out their walkin-around skills.
