Now, it's possible I just stopped...
Now, it's possible I just stopped in on a bad night. I've had pleasant experiences at Reds before and every club has their off-nights. Regardless, I definitely stopped in on a bad one.
First off, right after I arrived I overheard the bartender complaining to one of the bouncers that they were about out of singles because everyone was getting bills for tipping but a stage show hadn't happened in a bit for some reason or other. And then what I can only describe as a swamp hag approached me at the bar while I was trying to flag down the bartender for a drink (harder than you'd think, given half the seats were empty and everyone was off in the corner) and introduced herself before realizing I wasn't sitting down just yet. Now, I am a man who appreciates a dancer with a little mileage on her -- anyone who can stick with it that long and still have a job usually has a decent attitude or can at least have a conversation. But this was a grandmother just kind of making a grab at me on her way either out of the club to smoke or on her way back in. Fortunately, to her credit, she could tell I wasn't interested and didn't press the issue.
So I got my beer and while I was doing so they'd managed to get a stage show started. Now, either this girl misjudged how much time she had or simply didn't have anyone who liked her enough to get the music going again for her because at one point her jukebox songs ran out and she just kept dancing for about another minute or so (and no matter how terrible club music can get, few things are more awkward than watching someone dance in an empty house). She also got into some argument with a drunk just as she was finishing, someone who was just passed over by the nearby bouncers as she headed back into the back (when someone's throwing bills on stage and the girl refuses to take them because he's an asshole, that tells you something).
