Here's a joke to start this review: What's one way to tell you're a club tourist? How about if you find out you have to go to Detroit ... and, unlike most people, you're actually kind of excited.

I had heard much about the legend of Detroit clubs, so on my last visit, I decided to finally try one out. The Penthouse Club was a good choice. However, I do think it will take a few visits to truly get a feel. If I could change a bunch of things about my previous visit, I would.

First off, bring money. Yes, you will get charged fees. The $7 valet? I didn't mind that. Drinks for $9? I didn't really mind that, either. However, there is NO ATM in this club. If you need extra cash, you have to get it from the cashier at the front -- with a 20% surcharge. $200 costs you $40. That's quite a bit more than the $2 ATM fee you might pay someplace else.
