I visited this club...

I visited this club a few months ago on a Friday evening and Saturday evening while I was in Deland attending a trade show. While on the outside it takes on the physical appearance of your average gentlemens club...the interior tells a whole different story. It is one of the cleanest clubs (including the restroom) that I have visited. Everything from the seats and couches to the bar top appear new. Locals tell me that the club has been on location for a while,so the owners must have spent a bit on renovation. On the minus side the $12 door fee would appear to be an attempt to help pay for the investment.

Drinks were sufficiently spiked with alcohol and averaged priced so long as you bought one for yourself. They charged me $10 for a vodka and tonic I bought for one of the dancers there...and she didn't order a double. Scams aside, the bartenders waitresses and dancers were all friendly and reasonably attractive. The stage is to the right (customers' view) of the bar. A couple of the dancers got topless, but in general stageside 'mileage' was rather mediocre. The VIP area is semi-private with booths separated by dark, though non-opaque curtains. This presumably offers greater privacy than can be found in the Jacksonville,FL clubs that I frequent. Unfortunately this was not the case with me. The two $25 dances that a bought from separate dancers were also low mileage and mediocre. Maybe regulars do better, but even if I lived locally I doubt I'd frequent this place.

In summary Softtails Saloon offers a nice clean club with friendly staff and not a lot of bang for your buck. The ownership/management appear to be killing off their business with the ridiculous and unwarranted $12 cover charge. I visited on both a Friday and a Saturday evening and never were there any more than a dozen patrons at a time in the club. I mentioned this to the manager and she claimed the high cover kept the 'riff-raff' out. IMHO it also keeps out a lot of legitimate business. During my Deland stay. I also visited Pin Ups (no daytime cover charge) and had a much better time...and spent more money at the club.

Softtails Management...isn't that what it's all about?
