I went to the Cotton Club on four consecutive evenings from Monday through Thursday. Of the two strip clubs left in St. John’s, this is the more upscale of the two. The Cotton Club also had better looking dancers. The club is at the corner of Queen and George Streets above a bar. You pay a cover at a coat check booth downstairs, and then walk up a flight of stairs. There is a bar in the back, an oval stage with one pole in the front, and cramped seating between the two areas. Behind the stage are VIP rooms. To the right of the stage is a glass enclosure used for shower shows. A bottle of Molson Canadian costs $8, and a bottle of Budweiser costs $7. The waitress and bartender were usually cute. The club is usually pretty dead until after 10pm. Cover seems to be free most nights before 9pm. After 9pm, cover is $5.50 on Sunday and Monday, $7.50 on Tuesday and Wednesday, and around $9-10 on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Eighty percent of the dancers were 7’s or better, but there were a couple 5’ and 6’s. Almost all of the dancers are from outside Newfoundland. A lot of them fly to St. John’s, work a few weeks, then fly home. Many were from Montreal, Toronto, and Halifax. All of the dancers were Caucasian, except for one African dancer and one mixed dancer that I noticed on my final visit. There were seven dancers each on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, there were eleven. On Thursday, there were fifteen or sixteen. Stage tipping is very rare here since the lowest non-coin denomination in Canada is $5. If you do tip $5, the dancers will encourage you to climb on stage and lay down. They will then dance over you and simulate sex. They might even try to humiliate you in front of your friends. Typically, there is just one dancer on stage at a time, but once an hour, the club will put two dancers on stage for a set. Two of the better-looking blondes were Elektra and Charisma.
Lap dances take place up in the loft of the club, which is accessed via a stairway. To get lap dances, you must first pay a $5 fee for a wristband. Usually, the dancers are helpful in getting the wristband for you. The wristband is good for the whole night; even if you take different dancers up to the loft, you do not need to buy the wristband again. Lap dances then cost $20 per song. Lap dances take place in tight booths with reclined seats. Two-way contact is acceptable, as in touching the breasts and ass. Sucking on tits and touching near the pussy is verboten. The upstairs is rigged with cameras and is monitored by a bouncer on a television screen at the top of the stairs where you come up into the club. Most dancers will get nude right away, but some will wait until the second song.
The highlight of my visits was taking two Quebecois dancers (supposedly best friends) back at the same time. Since there were three of us, we went to a coach instead of a booth. The two filles proceeded to straddle across me and take turns eating each other out. This is the first time two girls performed a lesbian show right on top of me, a foot from my face. I only wish I could have gotten a few licks in. I paid $20 per song per dancer for a total of thirteen songs. This came out to $520. I also had some regular dances in booths with other dancers during the week, but they were average with some two-way contact.
If you are stuck in St. John’s, the Cotton Club is worth visiting. This is the more expensive and cleaner of the two clubs in town, but it does have the better looking dancers.
