Being from Calgary and finding myself...

Being from Calgary and finding myself in Edmonton mid-week on business, I had some time to kill and decided to check out the strip club scene. Given that the two cities are in the same province, I didn't really expect any differences in the clubs. Apparently I was wrong. Taking a quick look on TUSCL, I quickly saw that Diva's offers full nude lap dances - something conservative Calgary is probably a ways away from yet (we just got no-contact private dances in Q4 2009).

I arrived at about 8:30 PM on Wednesday evening and ended up closing the place down (2 AM). After paying my $7 cover and letting them scan my driver's license, I found the club completely empty except for staff and there was no dancer on stage. It actually took a while for a dancer to get on stage and I found that to be a theme for the evening. Loooong breaks in between dancers. I will say that the music between dancers was pretty good (rock mostly) and the DJ didn't have much to say - even when the dancers were up. Probably due to the lack of patrons.

The club itself was a bit dingy, but certainly not the worst I've seen. The wait staff were in bras and short skirts, and some were cute (others not so much). There are a couple of video games in the back along with two coin-op pool tables (the light was on above only one of them). The only TVs working in the place were the two flat panels above the bar and they had sports on. There are a couple of load-bearing pillars that are unfortunately positioned so that there really aren't too many places you can sit where you can see both TVs without obstruction. There are also a couple of cash machines.
