Great diversity
Cabaret Les Amazones was the only club I visited in Montreal that wasn't downtown, or near downtown. It was about a 15 minute car ride, which wasn't too bad. It's out in what feels a bit more like a suburb, with smaller buildings and larger lots. Despite this, the club was still below ground, which I found a little odd. I'm not sure what business was taking up the ground floor.
Cover charge was $5.00 (Canadian). Les Amazones was pretty large and open, especially compared to some of the clubs downtown like Wandas and Bar Downtown. There's a large circular stage with a catwalk that leads up to it, and a good number of tables around it for watching the show. There are chairs up next to the stage as well. As with other clubs I visited in Montreal, there's no real stage tipping (possibly because their $1 and $2 are coins) and perhaps as a consequence no real interaction between the dancer and patrons at the stage.
I think my Coke was about $7. The waitresses didn't seem to make it around a ton, but they weren't too bad, and it was easy to get attention at one of the bars. The tables and seats were pretty nice, and the main floor felt like it wasn't terribly old, or it had been recently updated. The stage had a fog machine running and lots of lights.
The group of dancers there the night I visited was one of the most diverse I've seen. There were women of pretty much every background - white, black, asian, south pacific, etc. They tended thin, though there were a few curvier ones. Several dancers stopped by to say hello. A few had excellent English, a couple others not so much. None was interested in a very long conversation (which was probably good; the club was louder than average), but none got perturbed if I turned them down.
The lap dances were $10 each, with no extra for going back or bar tab or anything. The lap dance area, unfortunately, did not have the same upkeep as the rest of the club. The area was behind one of the bars and was just a series of small, open stalls with wooden walls and bad chairs. I guess they were reasonably private if people weren't walking by, but there wasn't much else to recommend them. The space was as cramped as that at Bar Downtown (which is squeezed into a building with much less space than Amazones has) with worse chairs and no curtains. The dances themselves were pretty good. The dancers allowed contact (except between the legs) and several were nicely sensual rather than mechanical. They were all of a kind, though, and no one dancer really stood out at all.
At one point a bunch of police officers came in and wandered around, talking to a few people. This is something I've seen in other clubs in Montreal and appears to be a regular event. I don't know what they're looking for, but they left after maybe ten minutes without any obvious incident.
Overall, my experience at Les Amazones was meh. I quite enjoyed the diversity of the dancers. But the lap dance area was pretty grungy and it was a longer trip than many other clubs since I was staying downtown. I wouldn't avoid it, but I don't know that I'd go out of my way for it either.
