Alien (The Movie)

I noticed it was dubbed in Spanish on Netflix. So I put it on when my Cuban fav was over for OTC. She liked it. But it got me thinking. Why would the sister of Penny from Lost In Space be so freaked out by an Alien? Wouldn't she just make it a pet, like the bloop?
