I'm planning my first trip to Hong Kong at the end of this month and am excited to explore the local scene. I've spent a good amount of time reading through the forums, reviews, and tips here on TUSCL to get prepared, but there's one specific detail I haven't been able to pin down from the existing discussions.

Could anyone share insights on the general language proficiency among the dancers/providers in Hong Kong's clubs? Specifically, I'm curious about the approximate percentages or breakdowns:

  • What portion are fluent in English (able to hold full conversations comfortably)?
  • What portion know a few basic words or phrases (enough for simple interactions but not in-depth chats)?
  • And what portion don't speak English at all (relying on translation apps, gestures)?

  • 10%
  • 70%
  • 20%

I've only been once, but that's how I recall it. The percentages skew a bit higher toward English in Hong Kong vs Adelita's or Cowboys. But figure you'll be lucky to get more than "where you from?,"Ooooohhh, papi" (while rubbing your dick OTP), and a dollar amount to "sex" you.

@Rod84 is pretty close. After several hundred visits there in the last many years, I'd average it to 10, 60, 30. If some, or fluent English, is a deal breaker for you, have no fear. Because all you have to do is tell your mesero, and he'll find one (or as many as you want) for you.

Adelita's has been closed for good for a while. But if you venture out to the other two clubs of the Big 3 (BT and Chicago), significantly less will know English as compared to HK. If you hit the smaller bars/clubs, several of which I'm a big fan, very few will know English. And of course, if you decide to have some fun with the paraditas, expect 99% of them to know little-to-no English whatsoever.

You're making a great choice heading down to TJ. But just prepare yourself for the fact that it will ruin US clubs for you forever!

@TimmyTrumpets great note, if I can ask the metro and get it, im happy. I am going alone, so only talking through apps will get old. I am prepared to be ruined! Haha excited to go, and will post a detailed first time review after.

@Rod84 appreciate the info, I will be sure to ask for someone with English, but will try a few based on just looks to test it out. I have 2 nights at cascadas, I prepare to uber there from a hotel im staying at for work, bring only essentials, and uber back at checkout. I am only going to HK (as of now) heard it was pretty sketchy to leave.

Honestly, I would just approach it with a mindset that you are not going to meet a chica who speaks English and remind yourself you are in another country. I'm specifically saying chicas because hotel front desk, Azul restaurant (even menus) and some waiters in the club speak English.

Not only chicas but I would assume taxi drivers don't speak English as well.

I basically view it as closer to 5% who can speak English and 95% who don't. Yet no fear, download your favorite translator app and communicate that way. It is very common. I use apps like DeepL or Google Translate to communicate beyond my dog shit Spanish level.

Most often, you share a phone and pass it back and forth. Yet recently, I noticed it is faster when each has their own phone but that doesn't happen often.

I have spent 6 consecutive hours with a chica between clubs, arriba and restaurant while communicating on a translator and it went well. I can understand some basic Spanish so sometimes the chica can just speak when it is simple and I could pick out words and understand without transferring her end. The speaking process is way harder than listening.

My first few times there, I often forgot I was not in the US so I relied on speaking English way too much. You will be fine though. Learn some basic phrases before you go to help a lot. What is your name ? Do you want a beer? Where are you from? How long have you worded here? Then use translator afterwards.

My Spanish ability is still terrible, but I make do with English. And I’ve been going there 11 years with hundreds of visits. I’m sure you’ll do OK.
