One fairly local (I seldom see it outside of this area) custom, especially in small, neighborhood Italian restaurants is B.Y.O.B., which is bring your own beer and/or wine. Instead of paying $65.00 for a $20.00 bottle of wine, you pay $20.00. The house provides the glasses and a corkscrew if you do not bring your own, which I always do.
Wife and I search them out and one town on the ocean, Winthrop, has a lot of them. Our last visit was at a place called Arancini, in Woburn MA. The place is fantastic. Giving it 5 stars out of 5 actually felt like an insult.
Do you have B.Y.O.B. where you live? Is it similar or different?
Final note: Brazilians can cook Italian as well as Italians.
