Suppose Morpheus appears to you, and says you have to take one of two pills:
- The purple pill, which will cause you to live X more years with your current state of health and mobility, then die very suddenly, say from a heart attack.
- The green pill, which will cause you to live Y more years with your current state of health and mobility. Then, you will be in a nursing home for one year, but able to walk with a walker. Then, you will be bedridden for one year. Then, you will have Alzheimer's for one year, until you die. (No suicide allowed.)
The question is, what relationship between the numbers X and Y would cause you to pick one pill over the other?
I'd definitely pick purple if X is equal to Y. If Y were five more years than X, I'd start thinking about picking green.
