Slavery is still part of the US even today. And its been part of every society forever. Its not inherently immoral but it should be something that can only be used in certain scenarios like self defense laws.
It makes sense that slavery could be used as a punishment for certain crimes or to pay off debts- but if you allow any criminal to be used for slave labor that incentivizes criminalizing people for all sorts of petty crimes so you can use them for cheap labor
