The current bar and club closures are in effect reminiscent of prohibition. Pressure from the Christian right singled those businesses out.
You can get shit faced drunk in a restaurant but not a bar. You can have a hookah lounge but not a club. A bikini bar but not a strip club. The political influence on these measures is obvious.
