AUSTIN, TX — Travis County Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating what they described as a possible homicide after a man was assaulted at an area strip club last week, officials said Monday.
In an emailed advisory, a sheriff's office spokesperson said police were notified Friday by family members of a man from Houston. The victim's father told sheriff's officials his son had been involved in a physical altercation days earlier, but neither police nor medics had been called at the time of the incident.
Detectives later learned the man from Houston and another person had been assaulted last Thursday (Sept. 3) around 4 a.m. at the Bare Cabaret, 9705 Reservoir Court located some eight minutes northeast of downtown Austin. According to its website, Bare Cabaret is a two-story, 8,000-square-foot establishment featuring all-nude strippers where patrons bring their own bottles of alcohol.
Sheriff's officials said the man from Houston who was assaulted was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. His name was not disclosed pending autopsy. The nature of the man's injuries also were not disclosed.
While detectives continue to investigate, they urge anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers (512) 472-TIPS (8477) or the sheriff's tip line at (512) 854-1444.
