INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Indianapolis police are investigating after two men were shot at a strip club on the city's west side Monday morning.

Police confirm one died at the scene and the other at the hospital.

Neither man has been identified.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired around 2:30 a.m. at the Pony Club in the 3500 block of Lafayette Road near 38th Street.

Officers said a male customer was being rowdy and was escorted out of the strip club by a male security guard. They said the customer then went to his car to get a gun and shot the security guard.

Officers said the security guard was hit and taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Police confirm the guard died in surgery.

Investigators say he was able to return fire that struck the customer.

The customer was pronounced dead at the scene.

There's a fair-amount of lowlife riff-raff in many strip-clubs; particularly dives - working as a security-guard in a strip-club can def be a dangerous-job where they come-across and at times have to deal w/ some seriously nasty and dangerous characters.

Mint Lounge is a small-black-dive in Miami Gardens - about a year ago the security-guard that had been there for years was killed after asking some thugs to leave the club - if I recall the guy was in his 30s and left behind a wife and 3-kids. There's been other shootings at Mint over the years and I recall a few years ago there was a wanted poster the police had placed at the entrance of the club to be on the lookout for a fugitive (poster showed his pic), I guess perhaps he was known to visit the club.

In my opinion, the security in these clubs need to take it more seriously. Most security that I have met are dudes with skill, but they feel that their skill is better than the assholes they will have to deal with. They never have body armor (they should) and they seriously think their MMA skills will win any altercation they have. I have taught self defense for 40 years. I have always taught that there is always someone or a group of some that is better than you. The moment you think that you are the baddest ass in the place is the day that the fat guy in the corner is going to either mop the floor with you or just fucking shoot you. So, don’t be over confident. Wear body armor that stops a knife thrust and at least a 44 magnum pistol round. There is really good body armor out there now that is very light weight and made to look like regular clothing. If you want to be a true body guard/protector, then do it right. Don’t let your badass ego get you killed.
