MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The future of a troubled Memphis strip club is in doubt after three people were shot inside the club overnight.
Three people were taken to the hospital after a shooting at Pure Passion early Tuesday morning. Police were called to the Whitehaven strip club around 1:17 a.m.
MPD said the club was hosting a female boxing event when things got out of control.
FOX13 obtained cell phone footage of the incident that happened inside the club. In the video, you can clearly hear six gunshots.
Security chased and detained a man – identified as Adam Nickson – who was seen running out of the club with a stolen handgun.
MPD thinks Nickson snuck a gun past security and opened fire, which injured three people during the girl fight event.
Nickson was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. However, it is unclear who is responsible for the shooting.
According to a MPD report, the weapon found inside the club had been stolen this past August.
The gun owner told Memphis police he had his Glock semi-automatic weapon in his center console but left the car doors unlocked before entering into a sports center, which is when he thinks it was stolen.
Memphis Police Director Mike Rallings has convinced Shelby County law makers to introduce two bills that will fine gun owners who leave their firearms unsecured in vehicles.
These bills are making their way through various committees in the House and Senate.
More than 1,280 weapons were stolen out of cars in 2018, according to data provided by MPD to FOX13.
Hours following the shooting, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office announced that in light of the incident, the DA’s office is looking into whether it should shut the club down again.
Sources told FOX13 they are still gathering evidence and surveillance video inside Pure Passion about the crime.
Memphis police are still investigating the scene following the shooting.
Pure Passion's owners may be forced to voluntarily close the club to avoid being shuit down.
