A staff member of Shotgun Willie’s strip club in Glendale was expected to recover after being shot by a person who was denied entry to the club early Sunday, police said.
Late Sunday morning, police still were working to identify the suspect, who fled before officers arrived at the club, 490 S. Colorado Blvd.
The suspect was in a “small group” that attempted to enter the club about 2:50 a.m., said Lt. Roy Martin of the Glendale Police Department. Staffers denied entry to the group for an unknown reason, Martin said. The club typically is open until 4 a.m. on weekends.
“Staff was escorting them out of the business, and an altercation ensued out front between staff and the parties being escorted out,” he said.
One of the people who was denied entry brandished a handgun, Martin said, and began firing at the club’s security guards and staff members. Shotgun Willie’s guards typically aren’t armed, Martin said.
A staff member was hit, but Martin said the injury was not considered life-threatening.
Police planned to review surveillance footage as part of the investigation. Martin urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact Glendale police at 303-759-1511.
