Strip clubs operating in Fort Wayne may soon be forced to stop performances at midnight if one City Council member gets his way.

An ordinance sponsored by Councilman Russ Jehl, R-2nd, seeks to curtail the number of police calls to local strip club establishments.

In an interview Friday, Jehl said there have been 382 police calls to strip clubs during the last 16 months. Sixty-eight percent of those calls occurred after midnight, Jehl said.

"Now doesn't seem like the time to be apathetic," Jehl said.

Jehl's ordinance requires clubs to cease performances by midnight. However, the businesses would be allowed to remain open and continue to serve alcohol like any other bar, he said Friday.

The excessive police calls, Jehl said, often come from a mix of alcohol and "sexually oriented business" activities.

By limiting the hours, Jehl said he hopes to make the city's existing clubs safer, while also discouraging the proliferation of similar establishments in the future.

Jehl said the inspiration for his proposal came from a similar law the city council in Gary approved earlier this year.

The Gary ordinance is much more restrictive than Jehl's proposal, which only mandates the time when dances must stop. The Gary ordinance imposes room-size requirements and mandates that businesses completely close at midnight.

Seems to me that the trouble is not caused by the dancing but rather the drinking. Am I wrong?

The people who ran the Mexican Bar underground circuit always had the women out of there by midnight. Each of the two talent agents drove around with a mini-van full of women. They said it gave the guys time to cool down before they had to go out into the parking lot.

Not sure if the problem is the sexuality, or just the alcohol. I think the main issue is alcohol, or at least the way lots of people relate to it.

When Sunnyvale's first nude club opened Kit Cat / Cheetah's, the owner had to sue the city to get his license. He said that the other clubs attracted drinkers, whereas his new club would attract a naked women watching crowd.

I found his argument compelling.

The time someone died at the Pink Poodle, he had already gotten into a tiff with Pink P. people across the street at the 49er Inn, and he was completely plastered. There were problems at the club, and then he got punched in the face by Hell's Angel bouncer Steve Tausan, aka Mr. 187. A jury would later acquit Tausan of murder 1.

The after hours membership Club Sights in Newark NJ could allow BYOB. But they feel that it is better not to allow any alcohol. I am inclined to agree.

Also I believe that guys go there to session with the women, if not just to take them home with them.

Some Lingerie Modelling in Portland runs 27/7, though they say the girl that buzzes you in may be all that is on the menu sometimes. Running late at night does not have to be a problem.

How about tightening up on alcohol and loosening up on pussy. The higher the club mileage level, the less time guys will stay there. They will spend their money fast.
